Pioneering consumer flexibility in the Belgian market: Consumer flexibility based on residential assets is still emerging. ENGIE needed to validate both the technical feasibility of activating and steering these assets reliably, and the ability to deliver clear, tangible value for customers before committing to full-scale deployment across their customer base

Cross-organisational alignment at scale: Designing a customer proposition for scale requires alignment across trading, retail, technology, and executive teams, each with different priorities and success criteria.

Delivering value at the user and fleet level simultaneously: To succeed, the solution must deliver a measurable customer benefit while aggregating sufficient flexibility to unlock value in the wholesale energy markets.

How Beebop enables consumer flexibility for ENGIE

ENGIE is working with Beebop to launch a consumer flexibility programme built on residential batteries and solar systems. Once participants granted access to their battery to Beebop, it began collecting real-time telemetry and calibrating its models to each site. From there, automated optimisation runs continuously in the background (reducing bills, responding to market signals, and aggregating fleet-level flexibility) while customers retain full visibility and control through a live dashboard.

Automated optimisation, invisible to the customer: Beebop manages battery charge and discharge in real time, optimising for individual tariff structures, including Belgium's capacity tariff, which other international providers frequently miss without any action required from the end user.

Full transparency via live dashboard: Customers gain real-time visibility of their system performance and can pause optimisation at any time. Beebop ensures continuous data availability even where other applications have gaps in short-term data.

Fleet-level aggregation and market integration: By aggregating flexibility across its customer fleet, ENGIE captures wholesale energy market value, supported by the Beebop platform’s connectivity to day-ahead, intraday, and imbalance markets.

Strategic product enablement: Beyond the technology, Beebop worked with ENGIE to define the optimal optimisation balance and the digital customer experience.

How ENGIE turns connected assets into customer value

Early results validate the technical model and provide ENGIE with clear insights into customer value, supported by a strong demand signal from the outset.

What comes next

Building on the programme's results, ENGIE is preparing to scale the initiative further towards a larger flexibility service for all its battery customers. The asset portfolio will expand over time, increasing overall system flexibility and extending the customer proposition to a broader segment of ENGIE’s base.
